JEANRICHARD strikes with mystically blue Terrascope
Swiss luxury watch manufacturer launches 8 pieces for 5th edition of “Le Cabinet de Curiosités of Thomas Erber” at SIWILAI & Central Embassy in Bangkok JEANRICHARD reveals the “Limited Edition Terrascope for Le Cabinet de Curiosités of Thomas Erber” that the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer will present at the opening event on 20th November 2014 in Bangkok. The 5th edition of the annual exhibition is taking place from November 20th until December 21st 2014 at the Central Embassy Luxury Retail Project & SIWILAI Concept Store. The timepiece will then be on sale in a limited edition series of only 8 watches worldwide. JEANRICHARD will be present among the more than 70 international guests, launching this innovative aluminium timepiece with a “rubbergator” strap in all mystic blue with just a few red and white color nuances created exclusively for this event and in honor of the host country.

JEANRICHARD participates in the 5th edition of “Le Cabinet de Curiosités of Thomas Erber” with a highlight made in mystic midnight blue. The number of the very special Terrascope edition is limited to eight pieces only, playing tribute to the Asian culture. The frame of the automatic timepiece consists of a blue eloxed aluminium middlecase, bezel and laterals inserts, which provide the solid foundation of this limited edition. It is held in a polished and vertically satin-finished aluminium case. The black crown as well as the case back are made of lightweight titanium. The timepiece features a special “CDC-SIWILAI” engraving with the symbols of the concept store as well as of the CDC on the back. The blue dial is embellished with an artistic threedimensional camouflage print that complements the eclectic blue of the whole watch.
The hands come in blue steel with red luminescent material, while the JEANRICHARD logo and “Terrascope” lettering are held in classic white. Additionally, the timepiece features the brand new “Rubbergator” strap – a revolution among the bracelets, made of 100% water resistant rubber that has the same look and the feel of an alligator skin down to the smallest details.

Girard-Perregaux 1966 Collection Enamel Dial Limited – Edition

Girard-Perregaux 1966 Collection Enamel Dial Limited
These traditional techniques have been passed down the ages, without alteration to their essential requirements, formulas and know-how. These techniques consist in fixing the enamel powder and ensuring its harmonious balance through heat during delicate firing stages. The colour obtained remains unaffected by
time or external factors, and stays the same year after year.

Girard-Perregaux introduces 3 limited editions showcasing exceptional watchmaking expertise and craftsmanship and using two main distinct enamelling processes:
Miniature Painting: the base plate is enamelled in white. Coloured enamels are then used to painstakingly decorate the surface of the dial using a microscope for precision. The dial is fired after every colour application, starting from the most resilient colours to the most delicate ones. The piece is then finished with
one last transparent layer of enamel.

Cloisonné: the designs or figures are drawn by arranging into shape pieces of fine gold wire, into which the enamel is applied. The liquid enamel is laid into the cavities using a brush. Next comes the firing, timed to the minute in a furnace at 800°C. After cooling, the excess enamel is removed by vigorous sanding using a hard stone and water. The dial is then manually polished with a diamond file, before a last firing called “Dorure” or gilding adds shine and reveals the enamel’s full splendour.
Girard-Perregaux 1966 ‘Pur Sang’ – Miniature ENAMEL Painting
This limited edition of the understated Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection is paying tribute to the untamed beauty of the magnificent Arabian ‘pur sang’ with its distinctive head shape and unmistakable elegance. Known as one of the oldest breeds in the world, the Arabian horse captivates the heart. Its eloquent head that has been artistically reproduced for hundreds of years is now featured on the dial in a vibrant hand-painted miniature.
Girard-Perregaux 1966 ‘The Map’ & ‘The World’ – Cloisonné Enamel
The vision of the dial of these two timepieces offers a vibrant example of Cloisonné enamel beautifully decorated with a map of the world, a great classic in the Haute Horlogerie tradition. Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia and Australia are delicately outlined by tiny wires of gold precisely delimiting their contours and enamels hues. An invitation to voyage revealing new horizons of dreams.
These Girard-Perregaux 1966 limited editions are housed in the elegant Girard-Perregaux 1966 round case and beat in time to the fine GP03300 calibre. The diversity and richness of the decorations and finishes adorning the multiple components of the movement can be seen through a transparent sapphire case-back.

This is to a significant extent thanks to comparative testing made by the editors, the results of which are often decisive for the customers; neither this time a similar testing was left out; besides the testing, you will find e.g. articles about the history and development of English watch brands in various countries, about the history and development of calibration, or original reportages from manufactories etc.
– the Union of Glass and Fashion Jewellery Producers will organize workshops incl. a creative one, they will show the production process of glass pearl beads with help of a burner, as well as the assembly of manufactured fashion jewellery; additionally, the visitors will get the chance to manufacture their own piece of jewellery with assistance of a designer at cost price, i.e. at a much lower price than they would have to pay for the jewellery in a shop; of course, the price will depend on the type of used pearl beads – a piece of jewellery made of standard material can cost even only CZK 30, but handcrafted glass pearl beads are very expensive as such and their price logically influences the price of the finished piece of jewellery – however, it will still be only a fraction of a normal retail price

125th anniversary of La Esmeralda – Paris World’s Fair, 1889

La Esmeralda
La Esmeralda
Paris, September 29, 1889. Exactly 125 years ago, the Jury of the Paris World’s Fair awarded a gold medal to Girard-Perregaux for an exceptional watch that has since become a watchmaking icon for all brands and for all ages: La Esmeralda

Since 1860, Constant Girard-Perregaux strove to develop an unrivaled watch whose movement was not just a purely technical component but also instantly recognizable. Contrary to his peers, whose work quality was to focus on technical details or finishing, Constant directed his research towards the architecture of the movement.
He thus developed the famous parallel “Three Bridges” under which the mechanism was aligned. Initially, they were straight with pointed ends and produced in nickel silver. A Tourbillon fitted with the Three Bridges entered the Observatoire of Neuchâtel competition in 1867. It won first prize and its precision record
remained unbroken for a considerable time. That same year, the watch won a medal at the Paris World’s Fair.

Continuing his work, Constant Girard-Perregaux honed the design of the Bridges which took the shape of arrows with spreadout ends. In addition, 21 carat gold replaced the nickel silver as the functional material. In his concern to protect against possible imitations, the movement was filed by Constant Girard-Perregaux in March 1884 with the United States Patent Office. In fact such an office did not exist at that time in Switzerland until 1888.
For Constant Girard-Perregaux, 1889 was the year of another challenge: the World’s Fair held in Paris, the event that showcased the Eiffel Tower. The aim was to enter a watch that was exceptional in every way. There was no doubt about the movement; it had to be the Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges. In its most complete version, with pivoted long detent escapement, it also had to be given a suitable casing. Constant Girard-Perregaux opted for a heavy pink gold case engraved by Fritz Kundert, then at the height of his art. Kundert  made use of all the techniques known at the time (most of which are now forgotten) to produce an extraordinarily rich and beautiful decoration.

On September 29, 1889, came the verdict: Constant Girard-Perregaux’s masterpiece received a gold medal at the Paris World’s Fair. But its story did not stop at that: after the exhibition, the famous watch and jewelry retailer, Hauser, Ziwy & Co, running the “La Esmeralda” stores in Paris and Mexico, were appointed to market the watch. This is where the name we know today originated. A short time later, and without the details of the transaction ever being known, it was acquired by General Porfirio Diaz, then the president of Mexico. La Esmeralda only reappeared by chance in 1970; during a trip to Mexico, one ofthe co-owners of Girard-Perregaux was contacted by one of the general’s heirs and offered the famous watch for a sum that we will not disclose here. The transaction was agreed and since then La Esmeralda has found a place of recognition in the collections of the Girard-Perregaux museum.
This exceptional watch has had an exceptional destiny. La Esmeralda remains an enigma to this day but it is still an endless source of inspiration: why three
arrow-shaped Bridges? What do they symbolize? Still recognized 125 years later, the Girard-Perregaux contemporary Fine Watchmaking collection has never had so many Tourbillons with Three Bridges, from the most classic to the most innovative, like the Neo-Tourbillon with three Bridges presented at Baselworld 2014. These three Bridges are quite simply unique.
